Why Your Lap Band Is Good For Your Kids, Too.

There’s no doubt that having Lap Band surgery is all about losing weight so you can be healthier, happier and more confident. But there are some other very special people who benefit from the weight loss surgery: your kids.

We see a lot of moms and dads in the Aftercare office here at True Results, and I love seeing their transformation. There’s no doubt they’re excited about what the weight loss they’re experiencing means for their own life experience, but what’s really inspiring is to see how motivated they are by their children.

These are parents who, before they had Lap Band surgery, couldn’t get down on the floor with the baby to play because it was too hard to get up afterwards. They’d avoid going to the park or in the backyard with the kids because they’d get winded. It was just too difficult, too frustrating and too tiring to try to keep up with those little people and all their energy. Sound familiar?

After having bariatric surgery with the Lap Band, their weight goes down, and their energy goes up. I’ve seen patients who couldn’t even walk a mile before who are now out riding bikes, playing on the floor with their grandkids, coaching their children’s sports teams, training for races and generally being great role models for living an active life.

As one patient, Deena, told us:

Before I lost the weight, I always made an excuse as to why Mommy didn’t want to go out and play soccer. But I want my daughter to be athletic. That’s so important to me …. The only way that’s going to happen is if I get out there and do that with her.

There are solid medical reasons why you have more energy after losing weight. The first is pretty logical. Imagine carrying around a 100-pound backpack for a year or more without a single break, then finally getting to put it down. Imagine how light on your feet you’d feel! That’s the effect of losing a significant amount of weight.

Plus, when you adapt healthier eating habits – something we really help you with at True Results – then you stop eating so many simple sugars like those found in breads, chips, candy and sodas. These foods cause a rapid boost of your blood sugar level after eating, which is then followed by a crash. And that just makes you feel bad.

When you lose weight with the Lap Band, your children see your commitment to being healthy. When you exercise and get moving, your children better understand the importance of being active. When you eat better, your children will too. Now instead of just you making a healthy change in your life, you’re passing on the benefits to your kids.

So for yourself – and for your kids – make a commitment to losing the weight! We are here to help you every step of the way.
