The Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant will be responsible for providing support for diagnostics by performing patient consultations and examinations for any Lap Band-related processes. He or she will be the main provider of care for diagnostic patients in our Hurst location with periodic travel to our Dallas office. This person will perform initial history and physicals, after-care exams, patient counseling and monitoring for any needs that may occur. He or she will also supervise all cardiopulmonary stress tests and WLP visits.  Both full-time and part-time positions are available.

Responsibilities:

  • Assure that all procedures are performed according to the policies and procedures
  • Accountable for the clinical and administrative services provided to the Diagnostics Center patients
  • Supervise clinical care and related activities at the Diagnostics Center including sleep studies, EKG’s and stress tests
  • Perform barium swallows, interpret results, fill Lap Band ports and consult with physicians when necessary
  • Perform clinical care of Lap Band patients pre- and post-operatively
  • Perform pre-operative history and physicals
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Dictate medical reports
  • Perform patient education and assist physicians when necessary
  • May delegate responsibilities and duties to other competent personnel, both professional and non-professional
  • Maintain a respectful atmosphere for all persons in the facility
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality in a culturally diverse and non-discriminatory environment
  • Respect patient autonomy with patient participation in care decisions encouraged

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • Current license from the Texas State Board of Nursing
  • Current BCLS is mandatory
  • ACLS is preferred
  • Certification from NCCPA
  • Membership in local, state and national societies is preferred
  • Knowledge of computers and spreadsheet and word processing programs
  • Excellent people skills, especially those related to dealing with patients, visitors, personnel and physicians
  • Able to portray calmness and resourcefulness in stressful situations
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Objective perspective in decision-making
