In October 2005, my husband and I had our friends over for game night. Nothing was unusual about this evening until I had to get up off the ground. After several attempts at rocking myself out of the position I was sitting in around the coffee table on the floor, it took three people to pick me up.

In that moment, I knew I had lost my independence. After my husband and our two friends picked me up off the ground, I laughed it off in front of everyone. Then when I reached the restroom I looked in the mirror and cried. In that moment I knew that another failed attempt at Jenny Craig would not do (regardless of how yummy their chocolate cake was). So, I took my weight-loss challenge to the professionals.

Today, I’m 55 pounds lighter and living again. Since being banded I’ve done two things I thought were a thing of the past: wore shorts this summer and bought and wore a bathing suit. WOW! I hadn’t done that in years. Thanks to the band I’m no longer sitting on the sidelines watching the parade of life go by. I’m in the midst of everything and I don’t need anyone helping me up off the ground.
