Depending on whether your procedure is covered by insurance, or you choose to pay by other means, your pre-operative steps will vary.
After we verify that your surgery is covered by your insurance, your insurance company may have a few requirements, including one or more of the following: monthly weight loss program (up to 12 months), psychological consultation, nutritional evaluation, review of your medical records from the past 5 years, and an evaluation of your BMI and co-morbid conditions (such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, sleep apnea, etc.).
We also perform some vital tests to ensure you are medically approved for surgery. These tests include blood / lab work, a cardiac evaluation, and a sleep study (if requested by your doctor).
The final step before gaining clearance for surgery is to submit all test results and health information to your insurance company for approval.

All patients meet with your surgeon to review test results and discuss your general health, so the surgeon can confirm that you are a good candidate for surgery. Your surgeon will discuss the surgery itself and what to expect during and after the procedure.
